Hormone Therapy

Prostate Cancer needs the hormone testosterone to grow and continue spreading

To shrink the cancer it is deprived of testosterone. Hormone therapy will also lower the PSA level. Hormone therapy is good at relieving such things as bone pain and urinary problems.

Hormone Therapy may not cure the cancer but it can control the cancer and offers an excellant chance to keep you going for several years.

Medical Hormone Therapy

With medical HT drugs are used. You may be given monthly or three monthly injections, or tablets daily, or both.

Your Doctors will talk to you and help you decide which tratment is best for you.

Surgical Hormone Therapy.

This is where your testicals are removed

Nowadays because drug treatment has improved this option is used much less. However it will suit some men to take this option.

This method has the same effect as Drugs. Surgery is never undertaken without your consent. The consultant or surgeon will go through the whole procedure with you too ensure you fully understand everything about the procedure.

You have a choice of which option is right for you.

Side Effects

Side effects of all hormone therapy procedures are: -

Loss of interest in Sex, Trouble maintaining an erection and hot flushes.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy can be used later in the treatment to keep Advanced cancer at bay. This is usually successful.
